A short, pleasant walk along the canal from the suggested parking.

From the summit stretch of the canal (bief de partage de Hilvern, altitude 129m.) the canal descends to Pontivy. From the well named lock of "Joli Coeur"(Pretty Heart), a chain of twelve locks forming "the Roz ladder" is a splendid spectacle. The canal is a genuine hydraulic machine, which is maintained by collecting, redirecting and supplying water to the locks.
The eight "etangs du Roz” along the canal form part of this "machine".
These ponds which widen the stretches between locks, are nothing other than water reservoirs conceived to ensure the locks remain full. In fact these compensating reservoirs make it possible to preserve a constant depth in the canal.
They are the reserves of herons, kingfisher, moorhens, coots, grebes etc.

This was the fourth and last cache of today. We found it with Edi and Aty during a short stay in the area. Thanks for bringing us to this beautifull hidden spot.

Came to find this one on a beautiful sunny afternoon to escape a dreary hotel room in nearby Pontivy.

The locks and pounds are excellent, a pity few boats seem to use them.

Took the Sequoia Geocoin facsimile to move it on.

Good spot.
