Beg ar louarn (The point of the Foxes) The
ORIGIN OF the NAME… Without any doubt this peninsula
advanced in the sea between the strikes of Carry, and from Bilou
its name draws from the abundance of the foxes which haunted up to
one very recent time the moor of blackthorn and of gorses which
recovered it.
But perhaps without taking account of the goupils proliferating on the top of the point, the sailors named these invisible with open sea, and underhand rocks with the ebb, “Foxes”, by analogy with the character of the animal of the novel. The BATTERY UNDER the REVOLUTION When the military police chiefs of the Revolution give a a report on the places in 1791, they note that only a gun is able to draw, that the store contains 50 balls and two barrels of powder of 50 livres each one, but, as this powder has been there for 14 years, one can have doubts about its quality. TOWARDS a STATION RADIOMARITIME 1947/48, the administration of the Stations and Télégraphes which exploited in Ouessant pre-war period a radiotelegraphic station to communicate with the ships at sea seek a site on the continent, in edge of coast, to establish a station of radiotelefony there. It is this point, with a splendid sight,
that I propose to you to discover.
The old buildings of radio operator Conquet were located in the girded buildings of a stone wall at the top of the point. The hiding place is placed on the site of the old battery. Place at the coordinates of the listing admire yourself the places, turn the back on the sea, you to play now. All these elements were extracted from the Web page referred at the head of the listing.
